Nicholas studied with Alex Ashworth at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he was awarded The Independent Opera Vocal Scholarship 2012. After completing the Master of Arts in Vocal Studies and Royal Academy Opera Advanced Diploma course he joined De Nederlands Reisopera as a resident artist where he sang Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Sleep, Hymen and Winter in Fairy Queen as well as Petrus/bass in a staged Johannes Passion. He most recently returned to London as Basilio and Fiorello in Opera Holland Park’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

 

For The Royal Academy Opera Nicholas performed Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Villotto in Hadyn’s La vera costanza, L’Arbre in L’enfant et les Sortilèges, Bartley in Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea, Somarone in Béatrice et Bénédict and 2nd Armed Man in Die Zauberflöte

Under the baton of Iain Ledingham he played Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Amersham Music Festival and with British Youth Opera he performed the Sergeant and covered Colline in La bohème. For Grange Park Opera, he has sung Der Steuermann in Tristan und Isolde, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin and covered the roles Monterone in Rigoletto and Tomsky in Queen of Spades. Contemporary works include The Man in the Edgar Allen Poe-inspired The Raven by Matt Rogers at Opera up Close and Grimeborn and the Baritone in On the axis of this world by the same composer at the Tête à Tête opera festival. He’s performed with Glyndebourne Festival Opera Chorus and played roles in scenes from Don Giovanni (Leporello), Giulio Cesare (Achilla), Così fan tutte (Don Alfonso), Martha (Plunkett), A Village Romeo and Juliet (Marti) and has also performed Carmen’s Escamillo and Kecal in The Bartered Bride on the concert platform.

As a soloist Nicholas has performed at the Barbican, St Martin in the fields, St John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall, the Concertgebouw and Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam. Engagements include Verdi Requiem, Handel’s Solomon, Duruflé’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem & Solemn Vespers, Haydn’s Creation & Nelson Mass and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and cantatas.
